Do Rolex Watches Always Appreciate in Value?
If you’re considering buying a Rolex watch, or have one that you’re considering selling, you may be wondering about resale value. Fortunately, while there are many things to love about a quality Rolex, one of the great assets of these timepieces is that many have a good chance of appreciating in value over time.
You may have seen numerous examples of this, particularly with older models like the Daytona or Submariner. Since the 1950s, the average price of new Rolex watches has been increasing at a steady pace – and with the brand constantly growing and gaining more notoriety globally, this is likely to be true for quite a while longer.
When will the appeal of Rolex run out?
If you’ve heard the saying “All good things must come to an end”, you might be thinking that the brand will have to start to decline in value someday. However, even if this is true, it’s highly unlikely to happen anytime soon.
Even when smart watches were introduced, Rolex didn’t have to worry about their new, more intelligent competition. In fact, as the years have gone by since their arrival, they’ve only dwindled in popularity, with older smart watches significantly dropping in value.
With this in mind, buying one of these may not have been a clever move – but if it had been a Rolex, you may have been reading a different story altogether.
Does every Rolex go up in value?
While there are certainly a number of models that appreciate in value greatly over time, this isn’t the case for every model. While it’s unlikely to see a decline in price, there are also many that simply won’t increase.
There’s no way to determine just how much a particular Rolex could go up in value, but thanks to their brand recognition and excellent craftsmanship, they generally retain excellent pricings and remain desirable in the luxury watch market.
What do you need to consider when reselling?
While a Rolex is likely to at least remain in a similar bracket, there are a few factors that can affect the value of your timepiece – and these are well worth looking into if you’re planning on selling.
Of course, the condition is one of the most crucial factors to consider when determining the resale price – and generally, if you keep a Rolex in good condition, the chances of it appreciating are far greater. Outside of this though there are other things, like the model, which can be just as important. For example, those with a rich history of the brand and its overall popularity can make a huge difference.
The reference number and unique qualities can also play a part when it comes to an increase in value. Often, a rare reference number or any other uncommon qualities can really set a particular Rolex apart from the rest. For example, a rare model of Submariner has its name in red text across the dial, rather than the standard white, and this will pose a significant difference in terms of its resale value.
